A threaded bushing is a forged fitting designed to connect pipes of different sizes by reducing the bore, while maintaining a secure, leak-proof connection. Manufactured in compliance with ASME B16.11, these bushings are available in pressure classes 3000# and 6000# and are used in high-pressure piping systems. They feature internal and external threads, allowing easy installation without welding. Threaded bushings are ideal for applications where frequent disassembly, adjustment, or maintenance is required, making them suitable for refineries, chemical plants, offshore platforms, and hydraulic systems.
At Midland Forge, our ASME B16.11 Threaded Bushings are engineered from premium materials such as stainless steel, carbon steel, alloy steel, and high nickel alloys to withstand extreme pressure and temperature conditions. Each bushing is precisely machined to ensure accurate threading, superior strength, and long service life. Designed for efficiency and safety, our threaded bushings provide dependable performance in demanding industrial environments, reducing downtime and ensuring smooth fluid or gas flow across diverse piping systems.

How to select the right threaded bushing for an application?
- Pipe Size & Reduction Required (NPS sizes must match)
- Pressure Class (3000#, 6000#, 9000#)
- Material Compatibility (corrosion, temperature, pressure)
- Thread Type (NPT as per ASME B1.20.1)
- Standards Compliance (ASME B16.11 mandatory for forged bushings)
📌 For example:
- For steam at 500°C, Alloy Steel F22 or F91 (6000# / 9000#) is selected.
- For seawater applications, Duplex or Super Duplex is preferred.
- For general water/gas piping, Carbon Steel A105 (3000#) is sufficient.
Can threaded bushings be reused?
Yes, Threaded Bushings can be reused provided:
- Threads are not worn, stripped, or damaged.
- Sealing integrity is intact (no galling or cracking).
- They pass visual inspection and gauge tests.
What is the difference between a threaded bushing and a threaded reducer?
- Threaded Bushing: Has male and female threads for size reduction. Compact and suitable for confined spaces.
- Threaded Reducer: Has two different-sized female threads only (no male threads). It is longer and provides smoother flow transition. 👉 Engineers select bushings when space-saving and high strength are required, whereas reducers are used when better flow characteristics are needed.
